GROWING UP IN THE GROCERY STORE

There are no notebooks
in the office aisle,
no desirable kind
of bread.

The man who carries
cat food, kale
forgot something so essential
he's sprinting back between
the sluggish shadows
dog-wild and determined.

I'm by the yogurts, growing up
developing new hunger
for every type
of food.

  1. Until I've squandered all my money on the artisanal chocolate at the checkout, I'll never be of age.
