Caution to the wind,
Hob Nob shoveler,
crumbs will wind
into tile crust.

Old Boys Doing Better Than That
Alumni association hit by a googly: head is a bit of a cider old boy, swapping charlie
with his woodbine - morning after sharing cigs, burping -
escaping vapour steeped in whatever gunk is left
when saliva evaporates and gets caught in mouth droops.

RETURNING II
I
trudged and I heaved,
crossed-country for time
in the snow-view rom.
Vinegar in the cauliflower.
Sophie behind the wheel.
I took up the ghost hands and danced
for a basket of minutes, lay back
on the braid rug to try my luck
at the the wood knots again:
faces eyes question marks weapons
a horse head with a single tear
little snow buds
dotting the branches
outside.
crossed-country for time
in the snow-view rom.
Vinegar in the cauliflower.
Sophie behind the wheel.
I took up the ghost hands and danced
for a basket of minutes, lay back
on the braid rug to try my luck
at the the wood knots again:
faces eyes question marks weapons
a horse head with a single tear
little snow buds
dotting the branches
outside.

Distracted from an evening of
mac n cheese
beer
and television
by your letters
made me remember earlier days
when we were just getting to know each other
when we spoke everyday
and couldn't wait for the next time we would see one another
your little notes made me smile
I didn't cry this time
thinking of how I miss you
when you're not around
And then I suddenly heard the tv blaring over my thoughts
CLICK
And now it's off.
mac n cheese
beer
and television
by your letters
made me remember earlier days
when we were just getting to know each other
when we spoke everyday
and couldn't wait for the next time we would see one another
your little notes made me smile
I didn't cry this time
thinking of how I miss you
when you're not around
And then I suddenly heard the tv blaring over my thoughts
CLICK
And now it's off.
